Coming soon. Not available to candidates yet.
Hear every candidate answer, without booking a call
Your questions appear on screen one at a time. The candidate gets time to think, then records an answer on a phone or a computer, whenever suits them. You hear how they explain things before you decide who to call.
A one-way video interview is a recorded interview with no one on the other end of the call. The candidate reads each question on screen, gets time to think, then records an answer of up to a set length, in their own time. In Alert Hire it is a step you add to an interview alongside the written one, with your own questions, a time limit for each answer and a set number of retakes. It is in development and not available to candidates yet.
Try it
Sit the interview as the candidate
Three questions for a junior accountant role, as a candidate would see them. It starts by checking your camera and microphone, and you can hear your own mic played back live. Nothing is recorded or sent.

How a video interview runs
Time to prepare, then a set time to answer
A setup check first
The candidate turns on their camera and microphone and sees both working before anything is asked. Nobody starts an answer on a muted mic.
Time to prepare first
Each question comes up on a blank screen with 30 seconds to prepare before recording starts, so nobody is caught cold. A candidate who is ready sooner can start straight away.
A set time to answer
One, two or three minutes an answer, chosen for each interview. The question stays beside the video, never over it, and a candidate can finish early.
A clean break between questions
When an answer is saved, the camera view clears and the next question comes up on its own screen, so every question starts fresh.
What it does and does not do
Scored on what the candidate says
Every answer is transcribed, so it can be read and scored like a written answer, with the line from the transcript that earned each mark. Faces, voices, accents and the room behind someone are never scored.
Nothing in a video interview rejects anyone. You watch or read the answers and decide who moves on, as you do with the written interview.
Every candidate for a role gets your questions in the same order, with the same time to prepare and to answer.
Appearance, expressions, tone of voice, accent, or anything in the background.
It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer, at whatever time suits the candidate.

If you allow it. Each interview sets none, one or two retakes a question.
No. Answers are transcribed and scored on what the candidate says, with a quote from the transcript behind every mark, the same way a written answer is scored. Expressions, tone of voice, accent and background are never scored.
